Activation calculations

WTI performs activation calculations for reactor pressure vessels, their internals, and the surrounding structures. Additionally, WTI calculates activation activities for so-called core components (i.e. movable internals such as control rods).

The determination of activation of reactor pressure vessels, core-adjacent components, and building structures is carried out by:

  • Determination of (local) neutron flux densities and neutron energy spectra,
  • Calculation of the buildup and decay of (Konrad-relevant) nuclides, and
  • Validation of the calculation results through sampling, activation detectors, dose rate measurements, and neutron flux density measurements.

On this basis a large number of decommissioning, packaging, and sampling concepts have already been developed.
